Melbourne-born London-based rockers The Temper Trap have been on our radar since 2006, with the release of an EP and a couple of well-received singles, ‘Science of Fear’ and ‘Sweet Disposition’.

Mixed by DJ Havana Brown, this promises to be three discs of “the hottest hip hop and R&B”.

This immediately put a smile on my face.

This two-disc release from Modular darlings Van She, one of the latest in a string of 80s-esque electro pop outfits like The Avalanches, The Presets, and Cut Copy, comprises their debut album V and an eight-track remix disc.

Now if I had to pick one song that is most getting under my skin (and not in a good way) at the moment, it would be ‘Boom Boom Pow’ from The Black Eyed Peas’ new album, The End (here’s hoping).

After a stint playing the support fiddle for the extraordinary Rufus Wainwright, Tasmanian songstress Leena was beckoned to LA to work with famed producer Joe Chicarelli, who has Wainwright, White Stripes, Tori Amos and U2 on his impressive resume.

The latest compilation from the Ministry of Sound camp ambiguously promises “3 CDs of the very best chilled moments” from 1991 to 2009, and they certainly deliver.

First of all, listening to this was not a pleasant experience for me. I found myself often flinching, wincing and blinking against the relentless electro riffs and harsh, almost atonal, synth lines that permeate most of the album.

Brooklyn trio Chairlift had a modest hit last year with ‘Bruises’ – that sweet “I tried to do handstands for you” song featured on the latest iPod commercial.

Now you’re probably expecting me to pan this – but I’m not going to. It is exactly what it professes to be – a pretty extensive two-disc selection of the commercial tracks that have been filling dance floors of late.
